Try out the new Transkribus Learn: A Tool for Learning How to Read Old Handwriting

Historical documents can be an amazing window into the past, but if you can’t read the handwriting, they can also be frustratingly inaccessible. That’s where Transkribus Learn comes in.

Transkribus Learn is a new tool for learning how to read old handwriting. Whether you’re a history student, an amateur genealogist, or just curious about reading historical documents, Transkribus Learn is the perfect tool for you. We would also like to say thank you to the University of Greifswald, who were our partners in the project.

With Transkribus Learn, you can learn how to read old handwriting, one exercise at a time. The platform will show you a line of handwritten text with one word highlighted. All you need to do is read the word and type it into the box. Transkribus Learn will then tell you if you are correct or not. You can create your own exercises or try out public ones based on real historical manuscripts. And once you have finished an exercise, you can compare your results with other users to see how you stack up.

Transkribus Learn is more than just a tool for learning how to read old handwriting. It’s also a great way to practice and improve your skills. And even if you’re not interested in learning how to read old handwriting yourself, our main Transkribus platform has you covered. The platform includes advanced automatic handwriting recognition capabilities, so you can still access the text of historical documents even if you don’t know how to read the handwriting yourself.

So whether you want to learn how to read old handwriting or just want to access the text of historical documents, Transkribus has something to offer. Give Transkribus Learn a try and start learning how to read old handwriting, or take advantage of the platform’s automatic handwriting recognition capabilities to quickly decipher the text in historical documents. You’ll be amazed at the insights and stories that you can uncover once you can read those mysterious old documents! Transkribus Learn is now available on our public beta.
